Floral Pattern Type
All
of our patterns start with three somewhat dark base
colors and a fourth color which is used to lighten
and brighten the other three. This fourth color is
usually White, but we sometimes also use Tan, Yellow
or Gray for other interesting effects. The finished
product is called a "cane" and can be compared
to a roll of slice-and-bake cookie dough where the
pattern is visible in any cross-section.
For FLORAL we make complex flower petals out of a gradation of one base color to the lighter color. The center of the flower is a jellyroll between another base color and the light color. The background is the third base color, some lighter color and small bits of scrap from the other steps rolled together. The flower is cut, reassembled, reduced and recombined to make a complex square cane with large and small flowers.
